Anne developed the content for this role-playing game about disaster resilience for the Koshland Science Museum. It won a Gold Medal in the International Serious Play Awards when it was first released in 2015. The game is now in its third edition and has been played by community groups and schools around the world.
The game is designed to give participants a taste of what it takes to build community resilience in the face of disaster. Players work together to make decisions and solve problems during an engaging, fast-paced disaster simulation. Continue reading

It’s our hope that these materials empower individuals to make more informed decisions about their health.
Anne has produced and hosted more than 50 podcast episodes highlighting issues at the intersection of human health and the environment. Episodes feature interviews with experts from around the world and cover high-impact environmental issues such as climate change, chemical exposures, children’s health and more.
Anne developed this 36-page booklet for the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. It is intended for policy makers, researchers and other stakeholders and presents an overview of the ways climate-related changes in the Arctic impact us all. Continue reading

This work has helped generate coverage in The Washington Post, USA Today, National Public Radio, BBC News and other high-impact media outlets.
For each press release, we review scientific papers or other source material, interview the research team and prepare an engaging summary that will hook lay readers without “dumbing down” the research. Sometimes you need more than words to get your message across.
In this project done while Anne was a Communications Officer at the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, Anne worked with leading researchers and public outreach organizations to determine the best channel and format for reaching kids and gardeners with key messages about the value of pollinators.
The result was an innovative interactive wheel. Measuring about 10” wide, the wheel provides a fun and engaging way to learn about nature’s pollinators and get tips on how to plant a pollinator-friendly garden. Continue reading

Anne wrote this 32-page educational booklet while a Communications Officer at the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. It is intended for a lay audience and summarizes anticipated impacts of climate change on ecosystems in seven regions of the United States.
In addition to content creation, she oversaw the booklet’s design, printing and dissemination campaign. To develop the booklet, Anne drew from source material in National Research Council reports and interviewed numerous scientists and other stakeholders to distill key messages. Continue reading
Anne researched and wrote this educational booklet on stem cell basics while a Communications Officer at the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. The goal was to provide an engaging, science-based explanation of stem cells and how they’re used in medicine to inform a more balanced public discourse on the topic, which was generating considerable controversy at the time.
An extensive review process—involving members of the clergy and groups opposed to stem cell research, in addition to many scientists—helped ensure that the booklet would speak to readers with many different perspectives.
The booklet was well-received by its target audiences and tens of thousands of copies have been distributed to classrooms, museums and other groups. Continue reading
