Anne wrote this 24-page educational booklet while a communications officer at the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. Intended for a lay audience, it describes cutting-edge plant research and conveys the crucial role of plant sciences in advancing agriculture, biofuels, medicine, and other areas of innovation.
Anne developed the written content, conducted image research, and shepherded the booklet through an intensive expert review process to ensure accuracy and consistency with National Research Council reports. Continue reading
As part of a previous job with government contractor MDB, Inc., Anne produced this video and narrated training presentation for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. It is intended to help federal agency representatives introduce people living in communities affected by Superfund sites to the five-year review, a process used to assess the safety and environmental impact of hazardous materials cleanup operations.
For the video, Anne served as scriptwriter and producer, which included writing and voicing the script, conducting interviews, and directing filming. For the training presentation, Anne drafted narration and notes, designed the slides, and voiced the narration. Continue reading
While a Communications Officer at the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, Anne developed this suite of products as part of a broad outreach strategy focused on emerging discoveries about the amazing ways microbes benefit us and the planet. Each product was designed to communicate to a specific audience—ranging from middle school students to college professors to scientists—to deliver key messages to the right people in the right way.

Working with each project’s PI, Anne distilled key information about the impetus, activities, and impacts of each project. Anne wrote and disseminated dozens of report briefs during her time as Communications Officer at the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. These 4-page summaries provide a quick snapshot of complex scientific and science policy reports written by expert committees of the National Research Council.
For each one, Anne drafted the summary based on the full expert report, collected or created images, and shepherded the draft through a review process involving multiple stakeholders. She then played an active role in planning and implementing a rollout and promotion strategy. Continue reading
